Panic engulfed Kasarani, Nairobi county after a seven-storey building collapsed on Tuesday afternoon, November 15.

According to reports, after the building collapsed, several individuals were reportedly feared trapped beneath the debris that had spilled onto the pathway.

According to reports, City County Council construction officers arrived early in the morning for a normal inspection and promptly ordered the workers to leave the building site, pronouncing it unsafe.

The construction was reportedly still being done despite the supervisor allegedly disobeying the warning.

According to reports, five people had been retrieved from the rubble and were rushed to a nearby hospital.

Witnesses who spoke to the press intimated that there had been signs of cracks at the ground floor level of the building.

“We’re shocked at what has just occurred. It is unfortunate that the building collapsed.”

Recounting the events, a construction worker who survived the incident affirmed that they were cautioned of the cracks but ignored the warnings as per the contractor’s orders.

He added that the contractor has since escaped after the incident.

“When we arrived in the morning, we were cautioned of the cracks but our contractor dismissed the claims and urged us to continue working.

“I don’t know what happened as City Hall officers flagged off the building and warned people to keep off. They then escorted six people to their offices and as they were coming back, the building began to topple and collapse,” he stated.

“After the building collapsed, he managed to escape and fled. At the moment, we don’t know where the contractor is,” he stated.
