A police officer shot dead in Siaya County with his colleague injured after being attacked by thugs on Monday morning while escorting KCSE exam papers.
The tragedy happened in the Alego Usonga sub-county when the officers were escorting KCSE exam papers to Mahero Secondary School in Siaya County.
The school center manager is said to have run for safety as the officers engaged the thugs.
During the tragedy, one firearm was stolen.
The thugs escaped with the officers’ guns (an AK47 and MP5).
“The thugs escaped with the officer’s firearms; AK47 and MP5. Officers are investigating the crime,” read a police report.

“The Center Manager ran for his safety while the other officers struggled with the suspected thugs. Sadly, one office died on the spot,” the report added.
Nyanza regional police commander Manase Musyoka has confirmed the incident adding that they have launched investigations.
Musyoka said more officers have been mobilized to track down the assailants who are said to have escaped by foot and are still at large.
“The examination’s integrity has not been interfered with and the students are now continuing with their exams as was scheduled,” he said.
Residents who were at the scene said the body of the deceased had stabbed wounds.
