Klopp admits to still working on secrets to keeping their “insane” Thiago Alcantara fit

Thiago Alcantara is on a run of five consecutive appearances and has been hailed by Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

Thiago has made five consecutive appearances for the Reds after missing seven and a half weeks due to injury and illness.

He has been outstanding throughout this time, particularly against Leicester and Norwich, and Klopp hopes that he can establish himself as a steady figure as his side rotates.

Thiago will have to avoid the troubles he’s had since joining Liverpool from Bayern Munich in 2020, with his greatest run of starts for the club being seven games.

Klopp was asked if he believes this is his greatest era with the club so far, ahead of the visit of Leeds on Wednesday night, which should see the No. 6 restored to the starting lineup.

“I’m not so sure, I think last season, the last eight, nine games, he played pretty consistently all the games if I’m right,” the manager replied.

“Which, as I remember it, was a pretty good spell as well!”

However, while he addressed Thiago’s fitness concerns, he admitted that the club is still trying to find the perfect rhythm for the 30-year-old.

“I think we all agree, Thiago Alcantara agrees, there were moments when he struggled injury-wise, that’s how it is,” he continued.

“Then coming back, even with his quality it’s not that you can get rhythm all the time immediately. You can get rhythm, but not always immediately.

“It’s very helpful if you can stay fit for a longer period.

“It’s not so important if you play the first 60 [minutes], or the last 30, or 45 or whatever. We have to try to find the right intensity for him.

“Even when we work now longer together, obviously it’s still not ages and it’s not that we know absolutely everything.

“That’s why we try to – without keeping him outside when he’s ready to play – do the right things. That’s worked out now the last few games.

“That he’s a very, very good player, we were never in doubt about that. His skillset is insane.

“But it’s all about staying fit. That’s what we are working on together.”
