National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah calls for the upgrading of the presidential plane being used by President William Ruto.
Speaking on Tuesday, April 23 at the National Assembly, Ichung’wah said the house should consider allocating more money towards the modernization of military equipment including the presidential plane in the next financial budget.
“This now offers us the opportunity as we consider this coming year’s and next year’s financial budgets, to seriously consider the modernization of all our military equipment including the aircraft that we use not just in the military but also in the police including the presidential jet,” said Ichung’wah.
The Kikuyu member of parliament noted that the presidential jet was acquired in the 1980s by the late President Daniel Arap Moi and hence should be modernized to be safer.
“The Presidential jet was purchased in the late 80’s by former President Daniel Arap Moi and probably this offers us the opportunity to reconsider all this equipment towards modernization them to be safe,” Ichung’wah stated.
He further called out lawmakers who opposed the allocation of more financial resources to modernize military equipment.

“At times the military does come before the house looking for resources to modernize equipment, and I have many members during the budget-making process criticize without knowledge the modernization of military equipment,” the National Assembly Majority Leader added.
Ichung’wah sentiments come days after Azimio leader Raila Odinga challenged the government to relook into the security equipment, conduct a serious overhaul, and modernize the aircraft after General Ogolla died in a plane crash.
“It is our prayer that this tragedy may mark the beginning of a serious relook into our security equipment, especially the aircrafts with a view to undertaking a complete overhaul and modernization of the equipment. That was the General’s vision,” Raila remarked.
