The UK government issues travel advisory warning its citizens against visiting some parts of Kenya.
The United Kingdom has cautioned its citizens to avoid the Northern and Coastal regions of Kenya due to the risk of terrorism from groups based in Somalia.
According to an advisory, the UK government listed areas within 60 kilometres of Kenya’s border with Somalia, Eastern Garissa County including the Boni National Reserve, Mandera (excluding Mandera West Sub-County) and areas in Lamu County excluding Lamu Island and Manda Island.
Other areas include the northern region of Tana River County and areas within 15 kilometres of the east Coast between the Tana River and Galana River.
The UK government advised its citizens to only travel to the specified areas if necessary.
“If you choose to travel, research your destinations and get appropriate travel insurance. Insurance should cover your itinerary, planned activities and expenses in an emergency,” the advisory read in part.

Further, the UK government advocated for citizens to regularly monitor the travel advisories before planning to travel to the country.
The Foreign Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO) frequently publishes travel advisories on the government’s website to inform British nationals so they can make decisions about travelling abroad.
The UK government website indicates that “British people make around 50 million trips abroad annually. Almost all of these trips are trouble-free.
But every year FCDO helps tens of thousands of British nationals who have got into difficulty abroad. In many cases, these difficulties could have been avoided.”
