Government sends message to Kenyans who applied for ID card replacement

Huduma Kenya has asked Kenyans who applied for replacements of their identification cards (ID) to pick up the documents

Huduma Kenya has asked Kenyans who applied for replacements of their identification cards (ID) to pick up the documents.

In a statement on Monday, August 19, Huduma Kenya disclosed that the National Registration Bureau (NRB) had cleared the backlog and the documents were now ready for collection.

“Applied for a duplicate ID? The National Registration Bureau (NRB) have cleared the backlog. Come for the ID,” Huduma Kenya stated.

This comes after many Kenyans complained online about the issuance of the IDs, as some claimed the process was taking too long.

On August 1, the Commission on Administrative Justice (Office of the Ombudsman) gave the director of NRB a seven-day ultimatum to respond to questions raised about delays in the issuance of identity cards.

The Office of the Ombudsman noted that it had acknowledged multiple complaints across media platforms over the processing and issuance of the documents.

“Pursuant to Section 8 of the Commission on Administrative Justice Act, 2011, the Commission acknowledges the serious complaints reported concerning delays in the processing and issuance of ID cards.

“The Commission has given the Director, National Registration Bureau seven days to respond to the delay in the issuance of identification documents,” read part of the statement by the Office of the Ombudsman.

The replacement of ID cards is being done at all Huduma centres across the country at a cost of Ksh1,000, up from the previous fee of Ksh100.
