Ruto rebukes Kenyans celebrating the cancellation of JKIA-Adani deal

President Ruto has issued a scathing response to Kenyans celebrating the cancellation of the JKIA-Adani deal to modernize Jomo Kenyatta International Airport
President Ruto has issued a scathing response to Kenyans celebrating the cancellation of the JKIA-Adani deal to modernize Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony for the DEVKI Iron Processing Project in Manga on Tuesday, December 3, Ruto broke his silence on the controversy surrounding the halted deal.
Under the agreement, Adani Airport Holdings, a subsidiary of Adani Group, was poised to manage JKIA for 30 years, promising to transform the facility.
However, following the deal’s suspension, Ruto criticised those who lauded the decision, accusing them of ignorance and misplaced priorities.
How did Ruto call out those against Adani deals In his fiery address, Ruto took aim at critics, underscoring the importance of progress over side shows in government.
Ruto suggested that many opposing the project lack firsthand experience with airports, saying some probably never even set foot in one.
“I even saw some people glorifying the halting of an airport construction. Now, those who have stopped the building of the airport are being called heroes. Heroes for what? That airport is currently on the runway, leaking, housed in a tent. Other countries are building state-of-the-art airports, yet here in Kenya, I don’t know what kind we have.

Then there are people saying, “Oh, we’ve succeeded; we’ve stopped the airport construction.” What gain is there in stopping the building of an airport in your own country? And you have no alternative plan; you have no ideas about how to build an airport. You have no clue how it will be done. Those opposing the airport have probably never even set foot in one. Now you’re just opposing for the sake of it.” Ruto stated.
Ruto urged Kenyans to prioritise national progress over petty opposition, arguing that Kenyans don’t have a substitute nation.
He decried that most in the country were quick to demonise various undertakings, yet they don’t contribute to the country’s development. The head of state highlighted cases that he deems to have shown unpatriotic behaviours and scepticism towards every project.
“I ask my fellow Kenyans, we do not have an alternative country; we don’t have a spare country. We must be patriots and defend our country. We must work for Kenya. You see, many people, when they see someone like this investor, a person who has used their own money and placed their trust in the nation of Kenya, they criticise them. Yet those who contribute nothing anywhere are left,” the president added.
