ODM MP and Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has declared that he will mobilize Members of Parliament (MPs) to reject the latest Cabinet nominations by President William Ruto.
In a statement issued on Sunday, December 22, Kaluma criticized the nominations, alleging a lack of ethnic, regional, and gender balance.
Kaluma argued that the appointments were unfair, pointing out that all the nominees were male and predominantly drawn from a single community.
“The present nominations clearly violate Articles 10, 27 and 232 of the Constitution and will deny the Cabinet required ethnic, regional and gender balance, if approved by Parliament. In upholding the Constitution, I will mobilise all MPs to reject them,” Kaluma stated.
His remarks come after President Ruto nominated former Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo and former Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui to the Cabinet.

On the other hand, the Head of State also nominated Kinyanjui as the Cabinet Secretary for Trade and Industry.
The nominees now await vetting by Parliament after which the National Assembly Committee on Appointments will determine whether they are fit for appointment by the president.
“The president has transmitted the nominations of Cabinet Secretaries, High Commissioners, Ambassadors and Permanent Representatives to the National Assembly for consideration and approval by Parliament in fulfilment of the legal requirements set out under our nation’s supreme law,” Head of Public Service Felix Koskei stated on December 19.
