A senior Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) official has been killed during a robbery attack at her home in Mombasa and her son left severely injured.

According to a police report, two suspected robbers broke into Aisha Akinyi Abubakar’s in the wee hours of Sunday morning and used a knife to attack her and 18-year-old Khasim Hassan.

“They gained access to the house by cutting the grills of the kitchen window while armed with crowbar and knife,” said the report in part. The suspects, one wearing a mask, are then said to have cut Aisha on the head above her right eye and also used a knife to inflict wounds on Khasim’s head.
