There was tension at a funeral in Laikipia County after Laikipia North MP Sarah Korere expressed displeasure over the conduct of leaders allied to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua at the event.

Speaking during the burial service of Laikipia Senator John Kinyua’s father on Tuesday, February 10, the MP opined that the leaders were engaging in political sideshows instead of morning with the family.

“I am a Catholic and I do not want to see people bringing shame to the altar… Where I come from, when people go to a funeral, they leave these nonsensical sideshows,” the Jubilee lawmaker said.

She also called out Gachagua and the leaders for calling on people in the area to abandon the government, which they were part of forming.

“You made the Kenya Kwanza government and one day the former DP called me tough-headed and stated that I would together with Uhuru and Raila fail,” Korere claimed.

On the other hand, she took issue with the choice of the leaders to speak in their local dialect, adding that the county had people from many regions.

Following her remarks, some of the mourners expressed their displeasure while waving hands.

In response, Nyandarua Senator Methu took issue with Korere’s choice of words, asserting that President William Ruto’s allies were worsening the fallout within the vote-rich regions.
