Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has called out the police over their investigations into the recent abductions and killings.
Speaking during an ODM prayer event at Bomas on Monday, February 10, Raila acknowledged that the police had distanced themselves from the abductions.
He also noted that the police had stated that they did not know who was abducting the youth.
Consequently, he wondered whether there was a need to have the police if they did not know the criminals who had been undertaking illegal activities.
“Who are these people who are abducting Kenyans who police say that they don’t know? If the police don’t know, is there a need to have them?” Raila posed.
On the other hand, he condemned the abductions and killings, adding that they needed to be stopped.
“We are opposing those evil things that are happening. You know very well that I cannot sit and watch bad things happening and I remain quiet,” he stated.
“These abductions, torture and killings of the youth must come to an end in this country. We can’t continue with the abductions.”

In recent months, the National Police Service (NPS) has distanced itself from the abductions.
Police are also yet to arrest any individual who abducted various Kenyans, especially the youth. However, according to Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, investigations are underway.
“I want to say that investigations are at advanced levels in all reported cases of missing persons. I have given instructions that those investigations need to be done thoroughly and concluded,” he stated previously.
“Those responsible have to be arrested and taken to court. They will be dealt with according to the law. When they will be arrested, we shall inform the public.”
