President William Ruto has pledged a donation of 2 million dollars (Ksh258 million) as humanitarian aid to Sudan.
Speaking at the high-level humanitarian conference for the people of Sudan in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on Friday, February 14, Ruto acknowledged that millions of people in Sudan needed humanitarian aid occasioned by the ongoing conflict.
He asserted that Kenya had earlier pledged 1 million dollars, adding that an additional 1 million dollars would be made to the people of Sudan.
According to Ruto, close to 30 million people will benefit from the humanitarian aid.
“At the humanitarian pledge for Sudan held in Paris in April 2024, Kenya pledged 1 million dollars to support humanitarian efforts in Sudan,” he announced.
“I am pleased to reaffirm that Kenya will fulfil this pledge with an additional 1 million dollars to demonstrate our support for the Sudanese people.”

While in the company of Ethiopia Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, the President also called on all warring factions to give dialogue a chance owing to the deteriorating peace and security conditions in Sudan.
“We urge the warring parties in the Sudan conflict to embrace genuine and inclusive dialogue, as sustainable peace cannot be achieved through military means,” the Head of State remarked.
“Thousands have been killed, millions displaced and humanitarian aid blocked. This is an unacceptable state of affairs.”
The recent Sudan war began in April 2023 as the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) clashed with the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
