Former Chief Justice David Maraga has expressed that he would ensure that everyone obeys the rule of law if he is given the opportunity to be President.
Speaking during the People Dialogue Festival on Thursday, March 6, Maraga expressed that the biggest problem facing Kenya was people, especially leaders, who disregard the law.
He added that the selfish ambitions of leaders had created avenues for corruption, citing instances where money for projects was being diverted for other things.
“The truth of the matter is, what is ailing this country and very many African countries is corruption; the moment you deal with corruption, we will have no problem,” he stated.
“If I were given the privilege to govern this country, I would get everybody to obey the law. The moment you get everybody to obey the law, things will fall into place.”
Additionally, he noted that many leaders had selfish ambitions, hence the talks of extending the presidential term limit.

“Our Constitution is one of the best. The problem we have is corruption and personal gain. Leaders want to get to political power to enrich themselves. As a result, they do not want to implement the provisions of the Constitution,” the former CJ remarked.
On the other hand, Maraga opined that the petitions seeking to remove the Supreme Court judges were dishonest and aimed at attaining personal gains for certain individuals.
“The problem is that we have people coming up with false allegations which are not there. You need to read the petitions that have been filed against the judges of the Supreme Court and see where the problem is,” Maraga opined.
Notably, Maraga is among the leaders who are being fronted as potential presidential candidates in the 2027 General Election.
