A police officer died after collapsing shortly after taking part in the Madaraka Day parade at Wajir Stadium on Sunday, June 1, 2026.
The deceased, identified as Hassan Juma Moyo, was attached to the Wajir command and had just completed the march-past when he suddenly went down at around 9:05am.
The news of the passing of Moyo was confirmed by Kwale County Woman Representative Fatuma Masito on June 1 through her social media platforms.
“It is with great sadness, on behalf of myself, my family, and all the people of Kwale County, that I receive with sadness the news of the death of the late Hassan Juma Moyo, a police officer who dedicated himself to serving our nation until his last breath when he suddenly passed away while on duty during the national Madaraka Day celebrations at Wajir Stadium,” Fatuma stated.
“We send our deepest condolences to his family, relatives, friends, colleagues, and all residents of the Golini Lake area, who have lost their beloved and highly respected son.”
Moyo was reportedly rushed to Wajir County Referral Hospital, where medical staff attempted to resuscitate him.
Despite their efforts, doctors pronounced Hassan dead at around 10am, less than an hour after he collapsed on the parade ground.
Authorities confirmed the cause of death as Myocardial Infarction, commonly known as a heart attack, which struck him without warning in front of hundreds of spectators.

The National Police Service (NPS) or any other policing authority has yet to issue a statement regarding the sudden passing of Moyo.
The incident is not isolated. Multiple cases of police officers collapsing during state functions have been documented across Kenya, raising concerns about the welfare of security personnel at official events.
On December 1, last year, an administrator collapsed at Embakasi National Police College during a graduation presided over by President Ruto. A Navy officer also fainted in Kisumu during the Madaraka Day celebrations in 2021.
More fatally, a Presidential Escort Unit sergeant died after collapsing at State House Nairobi in April 2025.
In February 2026, detectives launched investigations into the sudden death of another police officer at State House, Mombasa, reigniting calls for urgent welfare reforms within the service.
