They call him 'Ruto Must Go' - woman narrates attacks from schoolmates on her boy named William Ruto

The woman says that she named her son in 2022, soon after William Ruto clinched the presidency, a popular trend among parents of naming their newborns after popular leaders, events or trending circumstances.

But now, the woman says she deeply regrets the choice of name as it has become her son’s biggest source of agony and anguish, as fellow pupils have converted his name into an object of ridicule and mockery.

“Whenever my son comes home from school, he tells me that during break sessions, other kids chide and bully him by calling him ‘Ruto Must Go’, ‘Wantam’… I do not wish to continue studying there. Please, mum, change my name or my school,” the distressed mother narrated.

The woman went on to explain that her decision to name her son William Ruto has also plunged her and her son into insecurity, as the verbal attacks have intensified over the years.

“I need security for myself and my son. I’m surprised that it’s a crime to name your child Ruto. I cannot change the name because I love Ruto,” she stated.

The woman, who was unapologetic over her choice of name for her son, has now escalated the matter to the school authorities as she seeks to have the matter addressed by school officials, parents and even her son’s schoolmates.
