President William Ruto has appointed gospel artist Paul Waiganjo as an advisor on Development Affairs.

The appointment was announced on Sunday, June 7, by Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano during a church service in Ol-Kalou, Nyandarua County.

Speaking during the service, Miano stated that Waiganjo will serve as the government’s advisor on development matters under the office of the president.

“Waiganjo has a job. I hear someone asking me what job? Because I have his papers here, Waiganjo will be the advisor to the government on development issues across Kenya,” Miano announced.

According to the CS, the gospel artist will be working at the president’s official residence at State House.

The appointment comes weeks after Waiganjo, who had initially eyed the Ol-Kalou parliamentary seat, ditched Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) and joined the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

He joined the ruling party days after losing in the party primaries for DCP, headed by former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua.

During the nominations ahead of the July 16 Ol-Kalou by-elections, Waiganjo lost to Sammy Kamau Ngotho, who was then handed the party nomination certificate.

Kamau won the DCP ticket in a landslide victory on Saturday, May 9, getting 12,957 votes in a hotly contested nomination, while Paul Waiganjo came in second with 4,978 votes, in an exercise that attracted nine aspirants and drew significant crowds.

The Ol Kalou parliamentary seat fell vacant following the passing of three-term MP David Njuguna Kiaraho on March 29, 2026.

He passed away at the age of 62 while undergoing cancer treatment at the Nairobi Hospital.

After ditching plans to serve as a lawmaker, Waiganjo, a seasoned local gospel musician, then joined Ruto’s party and threw his support for UDA aspirant in the by-election, Samuel Muchina Nyaga.

As an advisor on Development Affairs, Waiganjo will now provide the head of state with strategic, high-level advice regarding national development and grassroots progress.

He will also help bridge the gap between local needs, government policies, and sustainable growth strategies to improve public service delivery.
