Missing form three student found dead after Nanyuki protest shooting
Police shot and killed a 16-year-old Form Three student during the chaos that erupted in Nanyuki Town on Monday it has now emerged after the family identified the body.
After a two-day search for their kin, the family of Sylvester Muigai Ndung’u found his body at the Nanyuki Referral Hospital Mortuary.
“I went to the general hospital ward, and I was told he is not there. I was told to check the mortuary,” the mother, Lucy Kagure, lamented while holding back tears.
Muigai, who was a student at Thingithu Secondary School, had been sent home to collect a Ksh5,700 fee balance.
On the fateful day, his mother asked Muigai not to go to the streets where the protests against the planned U.S. Ebola quarantine facility were in high gear.
However, speaking to NTV on Thursday, a relative said Muigai was asked not to go to school because of the protests since the demonstration occupied the road used by students to go to school.
Muigai, the firstborn in a family of four, was among those who went to the streets at about 5:30pm as demonstrators gathered.

The protests soon descended into violent confrontations, with police and protesters engaged in running battles.
Amid the turmoil, he was shot in the head and died instantly at the scene.
“I am seeking justice. They killed my boy…I am a single mother of four,” Kagure lamented.
At least three people have been killed during the recent protests in Nanyuki as the protests entered the second week on Monday.
The violent demonstrations broke out in response to a controversial, U.S.-backed plan to build a 50-bed Ebola quarantine facility at the Laikipia Airbase.
Residents strongly oppose the facility, citing severe public health risks and a lack of community engagement.
