Energy CS Opiyo Wandayi has called on church leaders to adopt a fair and consistent approach when engaging with the government.
The CS has urged church leaders to support President William Ruto’s administration and contribute to national unity.
Speaking on Friday, Wandayi emphasised the importance of a balanced and honest assessment of the country’s progress.
“We want them (church) to be fair, and to be consistent. Consistency is very important,” Wandayi said.
“There are times when we have really wanted the church’s voice to be heard but we haven’t heard it, now things are improving, the country is now on the trajectory of recovery yet the church is painting a very gloomy picture, it is not fair at all,” he said.
Wandayi raised concern about the timing of the criticism from church leaders, suggesting that it coincided with when the broad-based government was working to deliver on the mandate to the people.
Wandayi called for greater cooperation between religious institutions and the government, asking the church to play a constructive role in fostering unity and economic growth.

“We wonder why this is happening only when the broad-based government has been put in place so we want to plead with the church to help us in these efforts to unite the country and to make our country grow economically in a cohesive manner.”
This comes a day after the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops warned that the government and public officers are engaging in lies to Kenyans.
They warned that the country was heading in the wrong direction and called for an end to the raging abductions allegedly by the state security agencies.
The bishops called for an end to what they termed a culture of lies and urged the government to serve Kenyans diligently by ensuring a functional health and education system.
However, President Ruto on Friday denied claims by the bishops, telling them to be truthful and objective in their criticism of the government.
