For this round, English teams can be drawn against one other for the first time, meaning a matchup between Chelsea and either Man City or Liverpool might be on the cards.
Despite the number of prominent names still in the pot, there is still a ‘dream’ scenario for the Blues to come out on top in this draw, as Rio Ferdinand hinted in his prediction.
He said and predicted his dream tie on BT Sport: “I’d go Liverpool vs Man City. I think there’s a league game between that and there would be three games in the space of a week. It would suit Chelsea too!”
If this were to happen, it would almost probably boost the chances of existing world and European champions meeting purportedly softer opponents such as Benfica or Villarreal.
The draw will take place on Friday in Nyon, Switzerland.
The quarter-finals will take place on 5/6 April (first-leg) and 12/13 April (second leg).
