Contract talks-renewal between Chelsea and defender Antonio Rudiger have reportedly broken down.

With the German’s current contract set to expire in the summer, the Blues were thought to be in talks to extend it, despite interest from clubs around Europe.

However, according to Sky Sports, no contract talks are currently taking place, and the club has yet to make an updated offer.

The 28-year-old was open to staying at Stamford Bridge, but his increased wage demands, which would reputedly make him the highest-paid defender in the Premier League, were swiftly met with hostility.

Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have been linked with Rudiger’s signature now that he is free to talk pre-contract deals with other clubs, while Manchester United has also entered the race, with interim manager Ralf Rangnick a big fan of the German international.

Since arriving in London from Roma in 2017, he has made 183 appearances for the Blues, featuring heavily in their Champions League and Club World Cup triumphs since the appointment of compatriot Thomas Tuchel as manager last year.
