Chelsea plotting the surprise sale of defender Kalidou Koulibaly just months after joining Stamford Bridge.

According to a report from TuttoMercatoWeb, Chelsea could look to sell the 31-year-old defender just a few months after signing him.

The Blues are reportedly not pleased with his performances to yet and are hoping to recuperate the majority of the €30 million they spent on him.

Koulibaly arrived as a replacement for German international Antonio Rudiger who joined Real Madrid on a free transfer.

The former Napoli star was anticipated to have a big impact right away and anchor Chelsea’s defense at Stamford Bridge.

But since things aren’t going as planned, Koulibaly is now viewed as a disposable asset.

When the transfer window opens in a month, it remains to be seen if any teams will provide the £295k-a-week star a way out.

The 31-year-old was a top-class player while playing in Italy, and according to the TMW report, he may play in the Italian league once more.

The defender still has a few years remaining in his prime, and at the right price, he might prove to be a valuable addition to most teams. Instead of selling him in the near future, Chelsea should try to give him some more time to get used to English football.

Meanwhile, Chelsea will have to dip into the transfer market for defensive reinforcements if they end up selling Koulibaly.

Graham Potter cannot depend on Cesar Azpilicueta and Thiago Silva to start most games between now and the end of the season.

Summer signing Wesley Fofana is currently sidelined with an injury but he is expected to return to action in the coming weeks.
