Craig Burley, former Chelsea defender has said Chelsea won ‘plastic cup’, lapped up like a World Cup, but are 16 points behind.

Craig Burley stated that the Blues must not lose sight of the fact that they are now 16 points behind Manchester City and have referred to the FIFA Club World Cup as a “plastic cup.”

On Saturday evening, Thomas Tuchel’s side defeated Brazilian side Palmeiras 2-1 in the FIFA Club World Cup final, with a Kai Havertz penalty in extra time proving the difference between the two sides.

Chelsea won the World Cup in Abu Dhabi, but former Blues star Burley isn’t pleased, dismissing the prize as a “plastic cup.”

He pointed out that while Chelsea was winning the FIFA Club World Cup in the Middle East, Manchester City was thrashing Norwich 4-0 and now leads the Premier League by 16 points.

What Craig Burley said;

Burley wrote on Twitter: “Whilst Chelsea were winning that plastic cup and it was lapped up like a World Cup win.

“Man City were racking up a sixteen point gap on them, in a competition that really matters.

“Let that sink in.”

Manchester City has 63 points from 25 league games this season, 12 points clear of Liverpool in second place, however the Reds have two games in hand and may close the difference to six points.

Chelsea is 16 points behind the leaders, but they have a game in hand.
