A 31-year-old clinical officer was on Monday, February 3, arraigned in a Mombasa court for allegedly raping a dialysis patient at a private hospital.
According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), Dias Juma Wabwile faced charges of rape and an alternative count of committing an indecent act on the patient.
According to the ODPP, Wabwile raped the patient on January 31, 2025, at around 05:00 AM at Pandya Hospital in Mombasa.
“He was also charged with an alternative charge of an indecent act on the patient contrary to section II (A) of the Sexual Offences Act, 2007,” ODPP said.
Wabwile, however, pleaded not guilty before Mombasa Chief Magistrate Alex Ithuku, and was released on a Ksh 500,000 bond with one surety of a similar amount.
The case is scheduled for mention on February 17, 2025.
This comes about three months after, a radiographer named Robert Kiplangat from Plainsview Hospital in Ruiru was charged with the rape of a 26-year-old female patient.
The incident reportedly occurred on November 16, 2024, when the victim visited the hospital for a gynecological consultation.
After paying a consultation fee of Ksh 2,000, she was referred for a pelvic scan to be conducted by Kiplangat.

During the procedure, he allegedly instructed her to remove her lower garments and, citing a lack of appropriate medical equipment, returned with two bananas, proposing an unorthodox method involving a condom.
The victim reported experiencing unusual pain during the procedure and, upon turning around, discovered Kiplangat partially undressed.
Her subsequent screams alerted hospital staff and other patients, despite the room being locked.
Following the incident, she filed a report at Ruiru Police Station, and a medical examination at Ruiru Level 4 Hospital corroborated her claims, leading to Kiplangat’s arrest.
He was arraigned at Ruiru Law Courts on November 19, 2024, where he denied the charges.
