Popular comedian and self-proclaimed activist Eric Omondi has claimed that he has been arrested by a group of non-uniformed men under unclear circumstances.

In a post shared on the comedian’s social media accounts on Friday, June 5, Omondi said he had been taken into custody by eight men and did not know where he was being taken.

“Just been arrested by a group of 8 non-uniformed men. I have no idea where we are headed!!!” he wrote on his social media pages.

The post quickly drew the attention and concern of thousands of his supporters and followers, with many seeking clarification about his whereabouts and the reasons behind the alleged arrest.

Details surrounding the incident remained unclear at the time of publication, and it was not immediately possible to verify the circumstances under which Omondi was taken into custody.

Neither the police nor his family have issued a formal statement regarding the alleged arrest by the time of publication, leaving many with unanswered questions.

The comedian, who is known for his vocal activism, has in recent weeks been involved in various protest campaigns, including demonstrations against the recent hike in fuel prices by the government.

While protesting against the rising fuel prices on May 18, 2026, Eric stormed Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) with a lorry loaded with several yellow jerricans, which he offloaded on the streets.

During the protest, Omondi linked the empty containers to the daily struggles of many Kenyans, saying the current economic situation had left many households drained.

“The President has the power to declare the fuel hikes null and void. To the Kenya police, always remember you are first a Father, a brother, and a husband before you are a policeman. Let’s not lose any more lives simply because Kenyans are peacefully asking to be heard,” he wrote moments after the fuel protest.
