Nyamira County has been in the spotlight following significant wrangles within the county assembly.
On December 14, 2023, the Speaker of the Nyamira County Assembly, Enock Okero, was impeached by a majority vote of the Members of the County Assembly (MCAs).
Following his impeachment, Okero was asked to step aside, and Deputy Speaker Thaddeus Nyabiro assumed leadership of the assembly.
This decision to impeach Okero came just one month after a failed impeachment attempt against Governor Amos Nyaribo.
Okero’s impeachment was driven by allegations of gross misconduct and corruption during his tenure as speaker. 24 MCAs supported the motion while 11 abstained effectively kicking out the speaker.
