Court orders government to give documental proof that Adani deals had been cancelled

More Pressure is mounting on President William Ruto and his government to reveal the contents of the Adani deals despite cancellation

More Pressure is mounting on President William Ruto and his government to reveal the contents of the Adani deals despite cancellation.

In a ruling issued by Justice Bahati Mwamuye on Wednesday, November 27, the government was directed to give documental proof that the deals had been cancelled.

Further, the judge barred the government from entering any future contract with the Indian company.

Meanwhile, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, who was representing the petitioners in the court case, demanded that the government reveal all information regarding the JKIA and Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (KETRACO) deals.

When we talk about strong winds, we are referring to high-level corruption, which the US takes very seriously under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. What Mr. Ruto mentioned during the State of the Nation amounted to the cancellation of these agreements.

“This indictment alleges schemes to pay over $250 million (Ksh32 billion) in bribes to Indian government officials, to lie to investors and banks to raise billions of dollars, and to obstruct justice,”

In particular, he called on the President to detail reports he alluded to when cancelling the deals.

“When we talk about strong winds, we are referring to high-level corruption, which the US takes very seriously under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. What Mr. Ruto mentioned during the State of the Nation amounted to the cancellation of these agreements,” he stated.

“what exactly has been cancelled? Kenyans demand nothing but the truth about the Adani Group deals. Anything else falls short of Kenyans’ expectations.”

During his State of the Nation Address, Ruto ordered the cancellation of the deals explaining that the government had received information regarding integrity issues of the company.

Notably, Ruto’s directive came after Gautam Adani was charged in the US with allegations of bribery and fraud emerging.

It was alleged that Adani and his associates bribed top officials of the Indian government to win a solar project.

“This indictment alleges schemes to pay over $250 million (Ksh32 billion) in bribes to Indian government officials, to lie to investors and banks to raise billions of dollars, and to obstruct justice,”  US Deputy Assistant Attorney General Miller stated then.
