CS Kuria questions DP Gchagua over his war on illicit brew
Public Service CS Moses Kuria takes a swipe at Gachagua led fight against illicit brew in the country saying it is too forceful.
Public Service, Performance and Delivery Management Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has questioned the state’s approach to combating the threat of illicit brew.
Speaking on a local radio station on Monday, the CS stated that the government must implement long-term solutions that will address the problem permanently and modify its approach.
He claimed that closing bars is a hasty decision that failed when the Jubilee government tried it as part of a nationwide campaign against alcoholism in 2015.
However, the CS commended his football event, which is being held throughout the Mt. Kenya region, stating that it is exactly the kind of action that is required to address the underlying reasons of alcoholism in the region.

“What we need is something that does not cause disruptions to the order of the day and provides a smooth transition from the old to the new.”
“The war against illicit alcohol can only be won if it is approached from the producer’s perspective rather than consumers,” he added.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has been leading the fight against illicit brew in the region.
Too much freedom, Kuria said, has also been hampering the implementation of policies and that it’s the biggest hindrance to the fight against illicit brew.
“This issue of ‘absolute freedom’ has reduced our country into an activist country where it is very difficult to enforce law and order because entitlement to rights gets exaggerated.”
