Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen sues Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei following their fallout.

In a statement on Monday, March 18, Cherargei shared the court documents served to him from the Milimani Commercial Courts.

According to the documents, the Nandi Senator has been summoned to appear in court within 15 days after being served.

“You are hereby required within 15 days from the date of service hereof to enter an appearance in the said suit. Should you fail to enter appearance within the time mentioned above, the Plaintiff may proceed with the suit and Judgement may be given in your absence,” read the summon in part.

While responding to the lawsuit, Senator Cherargei said he would continue to defend the people of Nandi County to get better roads.

“We shall defend the great people of Nandi County in the quest for better roads through our blood and sweat. Alluta continua. So Help Me God,” the Nandi Senator stated.

CS Murkomen and Cherargei have been at loggerheads since October 2023 after they clashed at a funeral in Nandi.

Their clash began when Cherargei objected to the awarding of a road tender to a non-local contractor in the county.

His views did not sit well with CS Murkomen, who said everyone was being treated equally in the tender process.

The Transport CS stated that if President Ruto had used Cherargei’s brain, the country would have been in crisis.

On November 22, 2023, Cherargei was ejected from the Senate after he caused drama during CS Murkomen’s plenary session.

On December 11, the Nandi Senator demanded CS Murkomen to issues an apology to Kenyans over a power outage at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

“In August the CS for Transport Murkomen went to JKIA fired individuals and told the country that generators had been fixed but yesterday it was a disaster. How can you lose electricity and generators at a critical national asset like JKIA, I think the Minister must apologise to the country for lying to Kenyans that the generators were working yet he knew very well they were not it is an embarrassment,” Cherargei said then.
