Did Kalonzo Musyoka meet Raila Odinga privately in Mombasa and after went on separate rallies?
Kalonzo Musyoka and Raila Odinga are believed to have met privately in Mombasa, after which they went on separate political rallies.
Speculation are rife that the Wiper party boss met Raila Odinga over breakfast at the Tamarind Hotel in Mombasa on Sunday, February 20.
The two politicians are engaging in talks that will culminate in a mega coalition that will battle with Deputy President William Ruto in the August general elections.
The deal between the two is reportedly being brokered by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
However, the details of the meeting remained scanty but there have been continuous calls for Kalonzo to join Raila’s Azimio la Umoja movement.
Kalonzo was joined in the closed-door meeting by Machakos senator Agnes Kavindu, MPs Musili Mawathe, Makali Mulwa, and Ali Mbogo, among others.
In a post-session interview, the Wiper leader stated that he was willing to talk to any party as long as they had Kenyans’ best interests at heart.
“Every time Kenyans keep on asking me if I will join other coalitions but what I can tell them is we want them to come with their manifestos and scrutinize them before having any agreement. What I can insist is, OKA will not go for them this time but its them to come for us,” he added as quoted by Nation.
Kalonzo Musyoka on a separate rally
Following the ‘breakfast,’ the two held separate campaign rallies throughout the county, with Raila hosting his at Tononoka grounds in Mvita and Kalonzo’s at Kadongo grounds in Kisauni.
It remains to be seen if Mr. Musyoka will join Azimio La Umoja under Raila Odinga, having in the past declared he wouldn’t support Raila again.
However, all indicators point to Kalonzo joining Azimio, and therefore, it’s a matter of when!
