Arsenal branded ‘retirement home for Chelsea’ as Gunners linked with Eden Hazard
After a report emerged linking Eden Hazard with a shock move to Arsenal, fans were quick to all point out that he would be the ‘latest Chelsea retirement home inductee’
Hazard, who has struggled at Real Madrid since leaving the Premier League in 2019, is the subject of interest from the Gunners.
According to Foot Mercato, the Emirates hierarchy have ‘initiated the first contact
After that news emerged, fans were quick to all point out the same thing. One replied [sic;]: “[David] Luiz, [Petr] Cech, Willian and now eden…is it a retirement home for ex chelsea players.”
Another added: “Arsenal is literally the Chelsea retirement home.”
“Chelsea fc retirement home back again” and “Another Chelsea retirement home inductee” echoed further supporters.
But while Arsenal have signed the trio of Luiz, Cech and Willian towards the end of their careers in the past, Hazard’s arrival in north London would be completely uncharacteristic of their current set-up.
Arteta and technical director Edu have adopted a youthful recruitment approach in the transfer market.
And so far this season, that decision has paid off, with the likes of Aaron Ramsdale and Ben White excelling following their summer signings.
Some fans are keen to keep it that way, with one writing: “We don’t need him thanks. Rebuild we a rebuild, done being a retirement home for Chelsea players.”
A fellow Guuner added: “Somebody tell Hazard, The Arsenal is not a retirement home. This guy ain’t the Eden at Chelsea anymore.”
Since his move to Real for upwards of £100million, Hazard has been blighted by injuries that have limited him to 65 appearances.
In that time he has registered a measly six goals as well as 10 assists.
Eden Hazard was linked with a return to Chelsea before they fell into a state of crisis due to the sanctions on owner Roman Abramovich, while Newcastle have also expressed an interest.
