Edouard Mendy receives an ovation from his teammates after touching down in Abu Dhabi for the Club World Cup after Senegal’s AFCON triumph.

Following his Africa Cup of Nations victory, Senegalese goalkeeper Edouard Mendy was greeted with a standing ovation as he reunited with his Chelsea teammates.

On Sunday, Mendy, 29, saved a penalty kick to help his country win their first ever AFCON title in Cameroon, upsetting Mohamed Salah’s Egypt 4-2 on penalty kicks.

The shot stopper returned to Senegal for a brief visit, when he and his teammates were greeted as heroes and the country was granted a public holiday to commemorate their historic victory.

Mendy posted video of himself riding atop a bus through the streets of Dakar, with supporters dancing, waving flags, and celebrating Aliou Cisse’s team’s victory.

Mendy has arrived in the Middle East to train with his Chelsea teammates ahead of the Club World Cup in Abu Dhabi.

The Premier League club released a video of the goalkeeper coming to camp, with teammates clapping and shouting for him following his achievements with the national team.
