Energy CS nominee Opiyo Wandayi reveals his net worth, speaks on taking advantage of Gen-Z protests
Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary (CS) nominee Opiyo Wandayi has said that he is worth Ksh530 million.
Speaking on Saturday, August 3, 2024, when he appeared before the Parliamentary Committee on Appointments led by National Assembly speaker Moses Wetang’ula, Wandayi broke down the composition of his wealth.
The former National Assembly Minority Leader explained that his wealth is made up of cars, cash, real estate, and farms across the country.
Wandayi who is the Ugunja Member of Parliament (MP) told the Wetang’ula-led committee that he has a farm in Siaya County and another one in Narok County.
He said he also has some plots in Kitendela in Kajiado County, and in Migori County.
Wandayi also says he has residential houses that have been constructed on his plots in Migori, and some other houses along Kang’undo Road in Nairobi County.
“My net worth is Ksh530 million. It is made up of cars, a little bit of cash, real estate, some developed and some not. I also have farms. I have a farm in Siaya, and I also have another one in Narok. I also have plots in Kitengela and Migori. I also have residential houses in Migori and some along Kang’undo Road in Nairobi,” Wandayi stated.

In addition, Wandayi said it was improper the say that they had taken advantage of the Gen Zs clamor to get into government.
“I never applied to join the Executive, but I was pleasantly surprised and felt greatly honoured that my name was recommended,” he said.
Wandayi said they are not in any way in betrayal of the youth.
He was answering a question by Kathiani MP Robert Mbui, over allegations that the nominees from the opposition side had taken advantage of the Gen Z protests for them to join the government.
“I am clear in my mind. The Gen Zs were not raising any different issues from the issues we have raised before. Therefore it is not proper to say we have taken advantage of the Gen Z demos to get into government,” he said.
“The issues that Gen Z were raising were very pertinent issues which must be dealt with. I still maintain the view that we are not in any way in betrayal of the youth. We are coming on board in a paradigm shift.”
