Former Arsenal star wins an award for the biggest flop in Serie A football
Former Arsenal player Aaron Ramsey won the Calcio Bidone award for the biggest flop in Serie A football.
Juventus outcast won the Calcio Bidone award as the biggest flop in Serie A football, beating Lazio striker Vedat Muriqi and another, Arthur Melo.
The Calcio Bidone award is held every year in Italy to celebrate the ultimate Bidone – a player you’d like to put in the bin – who is not so much the worst as the most disappointing.
Ramsey signed as a free agent from Arsenal in 2019, but he has always struggled with injuries, and this season has been no exception, with only 112 minutes of action for his side.
With 2,686 votes, the Wales international came out on top of the Calcio Bidone poll, narrowly beating Lazio center-back Muriqi, who had 2,567 votes.
Muriqi, a Kosovo international who joined Lazio for €20 million from Fenerbahce in September 2020, has only scored two goals in 48 outings for the club
Maurizio Sarri has been utilizing Pedro or Felipe Anderson as a False 9 while Ciro Immobile is injured rather than risk starting Muriqi forward.
However, Juventus dominate the podium, with Arthur Melo taking third place with 1,794 votes as Serie A’s biggest flop.
This is largely due to the fact that the Brazilian was granted a transfer value of €76 million plus bonuses when he arrived from Barcelona as part of an exchange agreement with Miralem Pjanic, but has remained virtually unknown in Turin and is now on loan at Arsenal.
