Former Parliament Chef Mungai Gathongo murdered in an altercation
Police have launched investigations after former Parliament chef Kamau Mungai Gathogo was fatally stabbed during a domestic altercation at his residence in Ongata Rongai.
According to police reports, police officers responding to the scene found Mungai lying inside his house with serious injuries.
He was immediately rushed to Saitoti Hospital for emergency treatment before being referred to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) for specialised treatment.
However, Gathongo succumbed to his injuries while being rushed to the hospital, prompting immediate investigations and a manhunt for the suspect.
Ongata Rongai OCPD Benjamin Kiprono confirmed that the incident stemmed from a confrontation that began inside the house and quickly escalated into violence.
“When the police visited the scene, they found him lying in his room. He was rushed to Saitoti Hospital and then referred to Kenyatta Hospital. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries,” said Kiprono.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect, believed to have visited the deceased at his home, allegedly used a kitchen knife found within the house during the altercation.
“It was just a fight that went too far. I can confirm that there was a single stab wound on the left side of the chest, which may have injured a vital organ,” Kiprono revealed.
Police have since arrested one suspect who remains in custody pending arraignment in court, with the police boss stating that they are still investigating the suspect’s background, as little is known about their prior history.
The incident has reignited fresh debate over the surging cases of domestic violence targeting both men and women, with several similar cases reported in various parts of the country.
According to a report by Amnesty Kenya, the country is experiencing a severe escalation in gender-based violence (GBV), with data by the humanitarian agency indicating a 10 per cent rise in reported cases targeting mostly women.
Amnesty International noted that husbands account for 40.15 per cent of femicide cases, making them the leading perpetrators.
