A former police officer has been convicted for defilement following an investigation by the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA).
In a statement on Friday, March 21, IPOA said Jacob Conrad Ojiambo was found guilty on Thursday, March 20, for defiling a minor.
According to the authority, Ojiambo committed the crime on April 14, 2019, while serving as a Sergeant in the Administration Police Service.
IPOA noted that the victim was a Standard Eight pupil at a local primary school when the crime was committed.
“IPOA’s investigation established, among other pieces of evidence, that Ojiambo grabbed the youngster and frogmarched her to his house, situated at the Administration Police Post at Mitahato, Githunguri in Kiambu County where he committed the crime,” the statement read.
IPOA stated that the case was initially investigated by officers at Githunguri Police Station, but IPOA took over and conducted an independent probe.
Their findings led them to recommend charges, and the Director of Public Prosecutions upheld their recommendation, leading to Ojiambo’s arraignment.
“Initially, the defilement was investigated by officers at Githunguri Police Station but IPOA on learning of the matter, took over and conducted an independent investigation.

IPOA’s probe found Ojiambo culpable and forwarded the investigation file to the Director of Public Prosecutions who upheld its recommendation to charge, resulting in an arraignment on October 26, 2021, at Githunguri Law Courts,” the statement added.
According to IPOA, Ojiambo was on Thursday found guilty and convicted for the defilement, with his sentencing set for April 23, 2025.
“Yesterday, March 20, 2025, he was found guilty and convicted for the offence of Defilement contrary to Section 8(1) as read with Section 8(3) of the Sexual Offences Act. He is due for sentencing on April 23, 2025.
“IPOA reiterates that members of the National Police Service (NPS) shall discharge their mandate professionally and responsibly in accordance with Article 244 of the Constitution,” the statement concluded.
