Former Regional Commissioners who worked under Uhuru Kenyatta dismiss claims they were fired by President Ruto.

This comes after on December 31, 2022, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki made changes in the Ministry and National Administration.

In a public notice, the CS recalled all Regional Commissioners appointed under former president Uhuru Kenyatta’s regime.

After the changes, many Kenyans started spreading rumours that the eight regional commissioners had been fired by President William Ruto’s administration.

However, the affected officers were only redeployed to various ministries.

According to Maalim Mohamed, the former Rift Valley regional commissioner, the former commissioners were posted under their previous job groups.

“I was deployed as Secretary of Administration in the State Department for Lands and Physical Planning. I retained the same Job Group.

Deployment is normal, and it’s unfair to say we were fired,” Maalim said.

He disclosed that all the other former regional commissioners were deployed to ministries to help coordinate the Nationa Government activities ‘The cadre of Administration officers are both in the field and in the Ministry’s Departments and Agencies. We are coordinators of National Government business, whether in the field or MDAs. We must embrace change because it’s inevitable,” he added.

Maalim, a long-serving civil servant, said he was grateful to the Kenya Kwanza government for his deployment, given that he has been in the field for close to three decades.

He sharply rose through the ranks to the topmost care of Regional Commissioner in Rift Valley, and in 2019, he scooped the PS Excellency award due to his outstanding performance.

“I am happy to be where I am, having been in the field as a District Officer, District Commissioner, County Commissioner, and at the Apex as a Regional Commissioner, formerly a Provincial Commissioner, for close to three decades right from UoN. I want to thank the Government for giving me another opportunity to serve Kenyans and the Government in another capacity,” he added.

Esther Maina, who was the regional commissioner for Central, was redeployed to the Ministry of Transport John Elungata, who was the regional commissioner for Coast, was moved to the Ministry of Environment.

Evans Achoki, who was the regional commissioner for Eastern, was moved to the Ministry of Sports.
