Kagwe was accompanied by former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya who also lamented over plans to tax farmers.

Munya faulted the move insisting that the government could have first formulated policies to ensure farmers sell their produce at a profit before hitting them with new taxes.

“We are being told to pay taxes, we will pay yes. But how can you tell a person to pay taxes yet he is not even earning any profit? Do you want them to pay taxes with their capital?” Munya wondered.

“Telling people to pay 30 percent of their earnings as tax is simply telling them to shut down their operations,” Munya indicated.
