Furious DP Gachagua hits out at Ruto after DCI target his staff and close allies
DP Rigathi Gachagua claims DCI targeting his staff and close allies in an attempt to soil his name.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has alleged that plans by the DCI to charge some of his allies over the June protests are part of the grand scheme to have him impeached.
In a statement dated Thursday, September 26, the DP claimed that the charges would be used as grounds for his impeachment.
He maintained that the affected MPs were only being pursued by the DCI because of their closeness to him.
MPs who are proposed to face criminal charges over alleged involvement in the June protests include Embakasi North MP James Gakuya and Embakasi Central MP Benjamin Gathiru MejjaDonk.
“This evil scheme is to associate them with violent demonstrations that took place in late June, in a futile attempt to soil my name and hopefully create grounds for the mooted impeachment proceedings against me,” the DP stated.
“Kenyans are intelligent people. They know what factors made Kenyans take to the streets. Kenyans also know what the real problems in Kenya are. They surely know Rigathi is not among them. Let our agencies remain professional, follow the rule of law and keep off politics.”

Gachagua expressed that he was embarrassed that state agencies were being used to fight him despite the promises he alongside President William Ruto made during and after the elections.
Further, he called on the DCI to stop being used in political wars.
“President William Ruto and I, on assuming Office, gave an undertaking to the People of Kenya that never again shall the criminal justice system be called upon to help in the management of politics,” read the statement in part.
“I am embarrassed that we are back to where we were. Harassment of my Office staff and Members of Parliament perceived to be close to me, has been going on for the last two months.”
Meanwhile, various reports indicate that an impeachment motion against the DP will be tabled soon.
