Gideon Moi Causes Confusion After Attending Raila’s Running Mate Unveiling, the Attends Kalonzo’s Function.
The Kenya African National Union (KANU) was thrown into disarray on Monday, May 16 when its leader, Gideon Moi, was seen at KICC and Karen within an hour.
Senator Moi made a technical appearance at the Azimio ceremony, where flag-bearer Raila Odinga was expected to introduce his running mate, before rushing to SKM Centre and joining Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka in launching his own Presidential campaign.
His party had initially pledged its support to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who had picked Martha Karua as his running mate.
In his address, Kalonzo was confident that Moi had thrown his weight behind his presidential bid dismissing claims that the Baringo Senator was a spy for Azimio.
“Kalonzo noted that Gideon would stand with him in the original One Kenya Alliance outfit, contrary to speculations that the KANU party leader would remain affiliated with the Azimio coalition.
“I know that some people have been saying that Gideon has been sent to spy but he is fully with us. My honest opinion is that OKA continues as originally established and we move on and compare notes. We have a business to save this nation,” stated Musyoka.
Moi’s move was dismissed by KANU Secretary General Nick Salat, who informed Raila that his party was a member of the Azimio la Umoja campaign.
In an address at KICC, the Sec-Gen hinted that the Baringo Senator and Kalonzo lacked a stand barely three months to the General Election.
He also promised the former Prime Minister that KANU would help him win the election.
“I am happy today that I am alive to see our fifth President has chosen a woman as his deputy. As you see me, lacking a stand is a very bad thing.
“I am here and I want to assure the fifth President that this time around, count KANU inside Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance. Ignore the other you’ve heard. I am telling you I am here to stay and we will vote for you,” declared Salat.
