Goons disrupt traffic along Outer Ring Road, rob motorists
Traffic along Nairobi’s Outer Ring Road was brought to a standstill on Friday evening after suspected goons reportedly staged demonstrations around Kiamaiko Bridge and the Kariobangi Roundabout, disrupting movement and targeting motorists.
One person is reported to have died from a gunshot wound, while another individual sustained injuries following the skirmishes.
Witnesses said the group barricaded sections of the road, robbed motorists and passengers, and pelted moving vehicles with stones, forcing many drivers to abandon the route.
Several motorists warned others to avoid the area, particularly those travelling from the Nairobi CBD, Thika Road, and Outering Road towards Kariobangi, Kiamaiko, and Allsops.
“If you are coming from town, Thika Road or Outering Road, Kiamaiko Bridge and Huruma Mosque are a no-go zone. Be alert and extra careful,” one motorist cautioned as the situation unfolded.
“As of now, avoid Outering Road at the Kariobangi Roundabout. Suspected goons are demonstrating, robbing motorists, and pelting vehicles with projectiles. The National Police Service urgently needs to deploy additional officers to the area,” road safety lobby group Sikika Road Safety said.

According to reports, the protesters were demanding the release of a local who has been missing for several days, amid claims that he was being held by authorities.
“The message is clear: End the abductions. Last time it was Chair Gorba, now it is Zizou. The question is, who will be next? We demand the immediate release of Abdul Aziz Mulo, alias Zizou, if he is being unlawfully detained. If not, the authorities must disclose his whereabouts and ensure he is accorded due process of the law,” one concerned resident said.
Other road users reported that traffic had remained at a standstill for more than three hours, with vehicles unable to move towards Allsops due to the insecurity along the corridor.
The disruption sparked panic among commuters, with reports indicating that some motorists were forced to turn back while others remained stranded as the group continued attacking vehicles.
As of the time of publication, there had been no official statement from the National Police Service (NPS) on the incident, although witnesses reported seeing security officers responding to the area.
