Government Huduma Centre updates Kenyans on police clearance certificate progress following complaints.
Huduma Centre on Wednesday issued an update on why Kenyans were not able to access certificates of good conduct.
Kenyans protested that they were still unable to access the document even after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) announced on September 8 that services had been restored.
The Huduma Centre said in a statement that although the systems had been restored, it was still facing challenges in issuing the documents due to a backlog.
“There is a delay in the production process due to system downtime experienced in March hence a huge backlog,” the agency noted in a statement.
“However, the issue has been resolved so kindly be patient.”
In their response, Huduma Centre attracted criticism after it asked a Kenyan to be patient despite waiting for months.
“Kindly you should also know patience is a virtue and it is important to exercise this virtue in life,” a now-deleted post from Huduma Centre read.

Following the backlash, Huduma has apologized and assured that they were working to ensure that the documents were issued on time.
DCI had in an earlier statement explained that system hitches had forced the government to resort to manual processing of the good conduct certificates.
With hundreds of Kenyans making applications every day, this resulted in a huge backlog.
To clear a six-month backlog, the Principal Criminal Registrar (PCR) put in measures to promptly clear the backlog.
The DCI is yet to comment on the recent development where Huduma Centres are still unable to issue the certificates as earlier promised.
