The local chief has meantime urged parents to speak with their children frequently so that they can be aware of some of the difficulties they are facing.

He said many children could be mentally unwell because of family issues among others. Without the attention and emotional support of their parents, they resolve to suicide.

Ogweno said there is a need for both children and adults to get necessary psychosocial support when they are stressed.

Migori County has had increasing cases of mental illness according to the data from the county department of health.
