A woman arrested in connection with the theft of two children is in police custody in Nairobi.

Mary Akinyi Mulamula was hunted down by a joint team of the Anti-Human Trafficking Child Protection Unit and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) stationed at the Kabete Police Station.

The detectives launched a search for Akinyi after being notified that she had picked up a child from her parents’ home in Muchingu, Mukango Sub-Location, Kakamega county.

The child was stolen in June this year.

According to the DCI, the woman convinced a shamba boy at the child’s home that she was taking her for registration in a sponsorship program promising a monthly stipend of Sh9,000.
