Ida Odinga’s bodyguard shot dead with new developments emerging

Ida Odinga’s bodyguard was shot dead by unknown assailants in Kisumu County on Friday morning, October 14.

A bodyguard attached to Ida Odinga, the wife of opposition leader Raila Odinga, was shot dead Friday morning by unknown assailants in Kisumu.

Reports indicate that Barrack Jaraha was shot dead in Riat area in Kisumu West Sub-county at around 5 am.

Sources say the suspects raided his house around 4:00 am in the morning.

Eyewitnesses claimed that he was shot at his Riat home in Kisumu West Sub-County, which is located near Odinga’s residence.

However, contradicting reports claimed that the bodyguard was partying at a club in Riat in Kisumu West Sub-County.

Police opened investigations into the incident, with preliminary reports indicating that the officer was involved in an altercation with an unnamed man before a shootout ensued.

Nyanza regional police boss Karanja Muiruri, and Mama Ida’s head of security, David Masaga, confirmed the bodyguard’s demise.

One woman and a man who were said to be in the company of the bodyguard incurred gunshot wounds and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Police are yet to provide an update on the status of the duo.

The bodyguard’s body was transferred to the Jaramogi Oginga Teaching and Referral Hospital morgue pending autopsy.

Ida and her team are yet to issue a statement over the matter with a source close to the family revealing that the bodyguard was off duty.
