IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati has reportedly removed all the electoral commissioners from the commission’s WhatsApp group.
The divisions within the polls agency, IEBC continue to play out over the presidential results of the August general elections.
During the announcement of the final results, four of seven commissioners disowned the results of the presidential election claiming they were not involved in the processing of the results.

And now the divisions seem to be not over the electoral body. According to a publication on a local daily, IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati has reportedly removed all the electoral commissioners from the commission’s WhatsApp group
The commission is split into two with one group siding with the IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati while the other is on side of Vice-chair Juliana Cherera.
Juliana Cherera’s group has commissioners Justus Nyang’aya, Irene Masit, and Francis Wanderi while Wafula Chebukati’s camp has commissioners Abdi Guliye and Boya Molu, in what seems to be a battle of wills between the newcomers to the commission and the old guard.
The four new commissioners, who rejected the presidential election results that Mr. Chebukati announced said publicly that they cannot take ownership of the announced results.
They have also complained about being sidelined in the appointment of returning officers, amid claims that they were blindsided by the arrival of the first batch of ballot papers.
During a meeting with candidates from eight electoral areas, which had their elections postponed, IEBC Vice-Chairperson Juliana Cherera hang her boss, Wafula Chebukati, out to dry over the cause of the initial postponement of the elections.
Insisting that commissioners were not reading from the same script, Ms Cherera charged some commissioners were intentionally kept in the dark regarding the printing of ballot papers.
Meanwhile, the four electoral commissioners will now each file their responses in the petition challenging the outcome of the vote.
