Jurgen Klopp agrees with Pep Guardiola on Liverpool vs Man City rivalry

Liverpool vs Man City rivalry will be in play as the two teams battle for the league’s trophy with Pep praising his Liverpool counterpart.

Pep Guardiola praised Liverpool after leading Manchester City to a Premier League derby victory over Manchester United.

Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool would have been Premier League champions by February in recent years if it hadn’t been for Manchester City, as he repaid Pep Guardiola’s compliment this weekend.

Liverpool moved back to within three points of City on Saturday with both teams level on points, but the Blues beat Manchester United to widen the gap again despite having played a game more.

When asked about the title race after that win, which many on Merseyside saw as a potential banana skin for City, Guardiola chose to praise Liverpool.

“I said many times, the biggest success for a manager is after winning three Premier Leagues in four years, we still run like we run and are there to win again,” he said. “Normally you have bad thoughts and you are confused thinking you are like you are not. Still we are humble enough every single training and every single game, do it to be there. After you can win or lose.

“I don’t think City would get the amount of points they have had this year if we were not around, and the other way round is the same. There are a lot of games still to play. We will see where we end up.

“I’ve said before that if we weren’t here, City would be champions by February last few years. And if City weren’t here, we might have been.

“And it’s not just them. Chelsea was a different level in the Carabao Cup final. It’s a challenge but we like challenges and we are used to it.”
