Jurgen Klopp drops hint on Sadio Mane contract talks
Sadio Mane contract talks are in progress and he’s nearing a potential extension if Klopp’s comments are to go by.
Despite Mane’s age nearing 30, the Liverpool manager’s recent words appear to suggest that talks about a possible extension are the top of the agenda.
Klopp appeared to have dropped a major hint concerning Sadio Mane’s future when he admitted that “clubs think differently” about a player’s age nowadays.
Mane is 29 years old and will turn 30 before the conclusion of the season, prompting speculation about whether the Reds will extend his contract or sell one of their most valuable assets.
The forward’s current contract will have one year left at the end of the season, but Klopp’s recent words will instill confidence in the Anfield supporters that Mane will remain at the club for the foreseeable future.
Sadio Mane contract talks
When asked about Mane’s future, the Reds boss preferred to talk about how his age can help him in the future.
“It is difficult to improve on the level that Sadio is already at,” Klopp explained.
“Lewandowski was born in 1988. So he is 33. Then there’s Messi at 34 and Ronaldo at 37.
“The massive advantage of being in your early-30s and mid-30s is that as a player you can see things in the right way if you have learned throughout your career.”
“Sadio [who turns 30 in April] can use that and become an even better player than he was two or three years ago.
“Clubs think differently. They look at a player aged 32, 33 and think, ‘We can’t sell him anymore.
“But if they are already inside the club, then that’s outstanding because they already have experience, desire, and quality.”
Mane returns to Liverpool from AFCON with his spirits after winning the continental trophy and with three goals and two assists in seven games.
Klopp’s side is currently 12 points behind Guardiola’s side, but they have played two games fewer and may cut the gap if they win their two remaining games.
