Kenya Sevens lose to South Africa in a late rally in Dubai Cup quarters
Kenya Sevens lose to South Africa
Kenya Sevens’ late revival was in vain as they fell 31-19 to South Africa in the Cup quarter-final of Dubai Sevens II on Saturday at the Sevens Stadium in the United Arab Emirates.
Alvin Marube’s three tries in the first half, as well as Timothy Mmasi and Jeffrey Oluoch’s tries in the second, were not enough to overcome South Africa’s five tries.
South Africa went to the semi-finals after leading 17-7 at halftime. They will meet France at 1.46pm, who defeated the United States 28-17 in the other quarter-final.
Kenya Sevens, who failed to go through the quarter-final for the second time in a row, will now face the United States in the semi-final for fifth place at 12.57pm.
At 1.24 p.m., Argentina will face Australia in the other Cup semi-final.
Australia defeated Ireland 24-12, while Argentina defeated the United Kingdom 33-12.
In the other semi-final, Ireland and the United Kingdom will compete for fifth place.
South Africa won the Dubai Sevens I tournament after defeating the United States 42-7 in the final the previous weekend, while Argentina took bronze after edging Olympic winners Fiji 19-12 in the play-off.
