Kibor’s family breaks silence on stoning of Raila’s chopper

Kibor’s family through Loyce Kibor breaks silence on stoning of Raila’s chopper; says they regret what happened

Mzee Jackson Kiprotiich Kibor’s family has expressed apologies for the incident in which a chopper carrying Raila Odinga’s team was stoned at Kabenes in Uasin Gishu.

As Odinga’s party left the burial of Kibor on Friday, the plane was stoned.

Kibor’s daughter, Loyce Kiibor, expressed sorry for the incident, but blamed it on some noisy kids in the neighborhood.

Odinga arrived at the home after Kibor’s body had already been lowered into the grave, she added, and stayed for around 20 minutes.

“We didn’t expect him at that time because the burial was almost over and we had even ruled out the possibility of his arrival,” said Loyce.

She said they too didn’t expect DP William Ruto because he had sent his condolences to the family.

Kibor’s family says they were not aware of any plan to attack Odinga, whom she said was a close friend of Kibor.

“We just urge that the issue be investigated properly,” said Loyce.

Her father was a peacemaker, she recalled, and the burial had gone down without a hitch until the horrible episode.

According to Joseph Samoei, a local, Odinga was well received in the area, but violence began until after Odinga’s team had left.
