KMTC introduces bridging programme for new medical students

Students currently applying for 31 Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) medical courses will undergo a crash programme after joining the college, the institution has announced.

According to the college, the crash programme will help new students catch up with other continuing students who joined earlier in March.

The institution said the arrangement is part of its academic planning for incoming students placed through the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) into various health training programmes.

“You will go through a crash programme to help you catch up with your colleagues,” the institution stated.

At the same time, the institution revealed that successful students will join its prospective colleges starting in May.

The clarification comes as KUCCPS continues with applications for placement into 31 medical-related courses across KMTC campuses nationwide.

The placement agency on April 21 announced an immediate intake for 31 certificate and diploma programmes, urging students who scored grades C and D in the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and were previously locked out of earlier placements to apply.

The opportunity was open for only two weeks, with KUCCPS calling on interested individuals to take advantage of it and apply before May 6.

The 31 courses cover a wide range of disciplines, including community health, nutrition, medical engineering, and health records.

Some of the diploma courses opened for application include Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery, Diploma in Community Health, Diploma in Emergency Medical Technology, and Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences, among others.

Certificate programmes include Certificate in Community Health Assistant, Certificate in Emergency Medical Technician, Certificate in Public Health, and Certificate in Health Records and Information Technology, among others.

KMTC says these courses are highly marketable and students can work in different fields, not necessarily hospitals.

Those who take the Health Records and Information course, for instance, can work in hospitals and health facilities, health information systems and IT departments,  research institutions, government and policy agencies, NGOs, and also global health organisations.
